WHOOOOA! August 26 was National Cherry Popsicle Day, and August 27 is National Banana Lovers Day! Two sophomorically-humored commemorative days in a row!
Since we’re in that gland, um, er, I mean, since we’re in that vein, um… since we’re celebrating long glorious things, let’s wish a happy birthday to former adult film star Harry Reems, who was born this day in 1947. Reems starred in “The Devil In Miss Jones” alongside Georgina Spelvin. Reems and Spelvin provided playful and enthusiastic performances sadly lacking among most porn stars. Reems survived bouts with alcoholism and legal harassment (vague obscenity charges amongst them) throughout the years, and has appeared to have landed on both feet.Hats off to ya, Harry!
Edgar Rice Burroughs publishes “Tarzan of the Apes” this day in 1912, but it would not be until 1982 when some guy played Tarzan and Bo Derek got naked as Jane.
1961: Francis The Talking Mule is a guest on TV game show “What’s My Line?”
On this day in 1990, Randy Savage beat Dusty Rhodes at WWF Summer Fest!
Martín Karadagián, unquestionably the greatest pro wrestling promoter in South American history, passed away on this day in 1991.
A huge thanks to my Slammin’ Stan comrade Alfredo Esparza for finding this thoroughly hep Johnny Legend performance of “Pencil Neck Geek!”

Math geeks say zombies win

Bad news. Mathematicians at the University of Ottawa in Canada have proven through a mathematical model that a zombie outbreak will eradicate the human race. Let’s hope they neglected a variable or two.
The report can be a little tough to understand for those of us who aren’t math geniuses. It says a little bit about the history of the zombie before classifying people into three types for their formula, which can be seen to the right: Susceptible, Zombie and Removed. “Susceptibles” are normal, uninfected humans; “Zombies” are obvious; and “Removed” are destroyed zombies and dead humans that can still reanimate. The tricky part of this model, compared to standard infectious disease models used to chart outbreaks, is that once someone dies they can come back into play and continue spreading the infection.
But don’t give up hope yet. The authors of the report give us advice so we can save ourselves in the event of a zombie outbreak. “Only sufficiently frequent attacks, with increasing force, will result in eradication.” In other words, shoot first and ask questions later.
